CALVET SUTHERLAND

Born in Kingston, Jamaica November 25th. 1970.
Having a father who was a builder I grew up around construction and early developed a liking for the industry.
In high school I did technical courses, Art and Craft, Construction Technology, Technical Drawing and even Culinary Arts. I graduated from Architecture school in 1994 and shortly after started working as an Assistant Architect at Desmond Hayles and Associates where I previously worked as a draftsman and printer. I later worked for the city council (Local Government) assessing applications, approving permits and monitoring post approvals. Simultaneously I’ve been in private practice designing additions, single and multifamily dwellings, commercial buildings and some construction.
Though from the Caribbean I am not confined to any particular single style of architecture but adopt based on what is appropriate taking into account the environment, precedence, client preference and other factors. Contemporary and Mediterranean style architecture are two of my favorite styles which I often mix in a single design.
